Retention
Making the habit stick: churn, cohorts, engagement loops, and the reasons users keep coming back.
The number that determines whether everything else compounds or leaks is retention. A strong activation rate counts for nothing if your 30-day curve is flat. Cohort analysis is how you tell a real retention problem from a mix-shift problem, and engagement loops are how the best products make coming back feel inevitable instead of effortful. Churn reduction is less about shipping features and more about understanding which users are actually in-product and why the rest stopped.
This collection covers the mechanics of retention rate, how to read cohort curves, where engagement loops break in practice, and how specific products redesigned the experience to make the habit stick. Use these pieces to sharpen your own retention diagnostics: which segment drives your churn, what the natural cadence of your product really is, and where onboarding is setting up a drop-off that looks like a retention problem but is really an activation miss.
