YouTube now behaves like television, a short-form feed, a search library, a live venue, a podcast app and a storefront. That range is its marketing advantage. It is also why YouTube marketing statistics are so easy to misuse. A television share, a Shorts view, potential ad reach and revenue can all rise at once without answering whether your campaign found the right buyer.

These 35 statistics keep the population, period and unit attached. The 2026 label describes when this collection was assembled. Most behavior measured here occurred in 2025 or the first seven months of 2026. For the category-wide picture, start with our [video marketing statistics](https://www.productgrowth.blog/p/video-marketing-statistics). For paid-media definitions and benchmarks, use the [video advertising statistics](https://www.productgrowth.blog/p/video-advertising-statistics) companion.

| Metric | Value |
| --- | --- |
| sourced statistics | 35 |
| of U.S. TV viewing in July 2026 | 14.2% |
| matched July share change since 2025 | +0.8 pp |

> **How to read this list:** Reported means the publisher supplied the number. Our calculation combines compatible values and shows the arithmetic. Survey answers describe respondents. Platform totals describe YouTube's own logs. Vendor-observed data describes connected accounts or tracked videos. None of those labels turns a large audience into proven incremental revenue.

## YouTube audience statistics: broad reach, different denominators

Start with people, not impressions. [Pew Research Center](https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/2025/11/20/americans-social-media-use-2025/) used address-based, weighted surveys rather than YouTube's advertising tools. That makes its findings useful for population reach, but not for estimating available ad inventory.

| No. | Finding | What the denominator means |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | 84% of U.S. adults said they use YouTube | 5,022 U.S. adults, Feb. to Jun. 2025 |
| 2 | 48% used YouTube at least daily | Our sum: 33% several times plus 15% about once a day |
| 3 | 33% used YouTube several times a day | Separate 5,123-adult frequency survey, Feb. to Mar. 2025 |
| 4 | YouTube reached a majority in every adult age group | U.S. survey use, not ad reach or watch time |
*Statistics 1 to 4. Source: Pew Research Center, 2025.*

The practical point is coverage, not uniform behavior. YouTube can support a broad U.S. media plan without pretending every age group watches the same creators, format or screen. Audience research still belongs in the brief.

That distinction changes the planning question. Survey use tells you how common the platform is among adults. It does not tell you how many people fit your market, how often they are available to an advertiser, or whether they will notice a particular creative. Build the addressable audience from the customer problem and buying context first. Then use platform reach to test whether YouTube can deliver enough of that audience at a sensible frequency. Starting with the platform total reverses the logic and makes broad availability look like customer demand.

## The television screen is no longer a side story

In [Nielsen's July 2026 Gauge](https://www.nielsen.com/news-center/2026/tv-usage-kicks-usual-summer-slowdown-fueled-by-world-cup-and-streaming-in-nielsens-july-gauge-reports/), YouTube held a larger share of U.S. television viewing than any other media distributor. The 2026 interval included the World Cup, so one month should not become a permanent baseline. The matched July comparison still shows how quickly the living-room surface has grown.

| No. | Finding | Scope |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 5 | YouTube captured 14.2% of U.S. television viewing | Nielsen, July 2026 |
| 6 | YouTube television viewing rose 6% from June | Month-over-month viewing, July 2026 |
| 7 | Its media-distributor lead reached 5.0 share points | YouTube versus the second-ranked distributor |
*Statistics 5 to 7. Nielsen measures U.S. television viewing.*

| No. | Finding | Scope |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 8 | Viewers watch more than 1 billion YouTube hours on televisions daily | YouTube-reported 2026 performance; geography not stated |
*Statistic 8. YouTube reports television watch time; this disclosure does not state a geography.*

| No. | Finding | Scope |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 9 | Connected TV reached 59% of YouTube's ad audience | Alphabet ad-planning data analyzed by DataReportal, Apr. 2026 |
| 10 | Mobile reached 89.7% of YouTube's ad audience | Overlapping device share, not an exclusive split |
| 11 | CTV audience exceeded mobile in 22 of 87 measured countries | DataReportal analysis of YouTube ad-planning data |
*Statistics 9 to 11. DataReportal analyzed overlapping device reach in YouTube advertising-planning data.*

![Nielsen measured YouTube at 13.4% of U.S. television viewing in July 2025 and 14.2% in July 2026, an increase of 0.8 percentage points or about 6% relative.](https://www.productgrowth.blog/media/posts/youtube-marketing-statistics/01-tv-share.webp)
*Our calculation from matched Nielsen July reports. The 0.8-point gain equals about 6% relative growth; the two observations do not prove a smooth trend between them.*

Device shares need special care. A person can see YouTube ads on a phone and a television in the same month, so 59% CTV and 89.7% mobile do not form a pie chart. [DataReportal](https://datareportal.com/reports/digital-2026-mid-year-global-update-report) also found no equivalent CTV surge in third-party data and said a measurement change was a plausible cause. Plan for the television experience, but do not mistake a planning-tool shift for sudden human behavior.

A living-room plan also asks more of the creative. Phone viewing can offer an immediate tap, a private screen and a viewer already holding the response device. Television viewing often puts the next action several feet away and may involve more than one person. The useful test is not simply whether an existing mobile asset can run on television. Ask whether its type is readable, whether the story works with and without sound, and whether the response path survives a second-device handoff. Track television delivery separately before comparing response, because blended reporting can hide a screen that earns attention but loses the handoff.

## Shorts, live and podcasts belong to different clocks

YouTube's format numbers are enormous. They are also incomparable. Shorts reports views, television reports hours, live reports a share of logged-in daily viewers, and events may report unique viewers. Put them on one axis and the chart would be fiction.

| No. | Finding | Unit and period |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 12 | Shorts averaged more than 200 billion views a day | YouTube-reported views; geography not stated, 2026 |
| 13 | Creators uploaded 20 million videos a day on average | All YouTube uploads, reported Apr. 2025 |
| 14 | More than 30% of daily logged-in viewers watched live | Share of daily logged-in viewers, Q2 2025 |
| 15 | Podcasts drew more than 700 million living-room hours | Television devices; geography not stated, Oct. 2025 |
| 16 | Podcast living-room time grew 75% year over year | Oct. 2025 versus Oct. 2024 |
| 17 | World Cup-related videos drew more than 1.7 billion unique viewers | During FIFA World Cup 2026; reported Jul. 22, 2026 |
*Statistics 12 to 17. These YouTube-reported values describe different units and events; they should not be ranked against each other.*

| No. | Finding | Unit and period |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 18 | Shopping-related videos drew 35 billion hours | YouTube-reported watch time; geography not stated, 12 months to mid-2025 |
| 19 | More than 500,000 creators joined YouTube Shopping | Global enrollment as of Jul. 2025 |
| 20 | YouTube Shopping GMV grew fivefold | Year-over-year company-reported growth; absolute GMV undisclosed |
| 21 | Channels earning six figures from TV screens grew more than 45% | Global channel count, Jul. 2024 to Jun. 2025 versus prior year |
*Statistics 18 to 21. Shopping watch time, creator enrollment, GMV growth, and creator earnings use different denominators.*

The production implication is useful even when the totals cannot be compared. A single upload can now be cut for a vertical feed, built for a television screen, extended into live programming and connected to a product. Each surface needs its own opening, viewing context and success measure. The [short-form video statistics](https://www.productgrowth.blog/p/short-form-video-statistics) page goes deeper on the feed-specific evidence.

Do not allocate production effort by picking the largest platform number. Daily views reward a repeatable, low-friction unit. Watch hours reward sustained attention. Unique event viewers describe the reach of a moment. Creator enrollment describes participation in a commercial program. Each can be useful, but each suggests a different operating choice. A team testing hooks may care about qualified view rate by Short. A team teaching a complex workflow may care about completion and assisted conversion on a searchable video. A team using live programming may care about returning viewers and the quality of questions. The platform can connect those jobs, but the scorecard should keep them separate.

## Advertising and creator money are moving, but revenue is not ROI

Alphabet's [SEC-filed Q2 2026 results](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1652044/000165204426000066/googexhibit991q22026.htm) provide the cleanest current money measure. YouTube ads generated $11.055 billion in the quarter, up 13% year over year. That demonstrates advertiser demand. It does not disclose the return earned by those advertisers.

| No. | Finding | Limit |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 22 | YouTube ads generated $11.055 billion in Q2 2026 | Platform revenue, not advertiser profit |
| 23 | YouTube ad revenue grew 13% year over year | Company-reported quarterly change |
| 24 | YouTube's 2025 revenue exceeded $60 billion | Ads plus subscriptions; costs and profit not disclosed separately |
*Statistics 22 to 24. Alphabet's financial disclosures describe YouTube's business, not advertiser profit.*

| No. | Finding | Limit |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 25 | 82% of Wyzowl's relevant businesses uploaded video to YouTube | Late-2025 survey; 266 total routed respondents |
| 26 | 69% of relevant respondents called YouTube effective | Self-reported effectiveness, not an experiment |
| 27 | 82% of video marketers reported good video ROI | Video marketing overall, not YouTube alone |
| 28 | 67% used views to quantify video ROI | Multiple responses allowed |
| 29 | 52% used leads or clicks | Closer to action, but still not profit |
| 30 | 32% used sales | The least-used measure in this selected set |
*Statistics 25 to 30. Wyzowl describes what its survey respondents reported; its broad ROI questions are not YouTube-only.*

*Wyzowl asked how video marketers quantify ROI. The categories overlap, and the figures cover video marketing rather than YouTube alone.*

Views can diagnose distribution and creative response. They cannot carry the entire ROI claim. A useful YouTube scorecard keeps one metric for delivery, one for attention, one for qualified response and one for business value. If the campaign cannot connect to sales directly, use a credible lift test or another stated counterfactual instead of renaming engagement as return.

The denominator problem gets sharper when money enters the discussion. Platform revenue records what advertisers and subscribers paid YouTube. A marketer's return compares incremental business value with the cost of media, production, creators and measurement. Those accounts sit on opposite sides of the transaction. A growing platform business can contain excellent campaigns, wasteful campaigns and campaigns designed for awareness rather than immediate sales. Keep the platform figure as evidence of market activity. For your own decision, state the conversion window, contribution margin and counterfactual before calculating return. Otherwise a clean percentage can conceal an undefined business question.

## Observed channel data adds motion, not a universal benchmark

Surveys tell us what marketers believe. Connected-account data shows what happened inside a narrower population. In its downloadable [2026 Social Media Study](https://metricool.com/wp-content/uploads/Social-Media-Study-2026-EN.pdf), Metricool reported more YouTube output and average viewing among accounts connected to its product. Its later press-release summary gives different percentages, so the findings below use only the report's explicit YouTube page.

| No. | Finding | Population |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 31 | Average views per video increased 76% | Metricool-connected YouTube accounts, 2024 to 2025 |
| 32 | Total posts increased 53% | Same connected-account dataset |
| 33 | Interactions increased 11% | Same connected-account dataset |
*Statistics 31 to 33. Metricool-connected account data reveals movement inside a defined population, not a platform-wide average.*

| No. | Finding | Population |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 34 | Gospel Stats counted 65,759 sponsored videos, up 54% | Qualifying videos from English-speaking channels, H1 2025 |
| 35 | Those sponsored videos generated 19.1 billion views, up nearly 28% | Axios report of Gospel Stats 90-day video counts |
*Statistics 34 and 35. Gospel Stats' tracked-video dataset is a scoped sponsorship signal, not a census.*

![Metricool-connected YouTube accounts changed from 2024 to 2025 as follows: average views per video increased 76%, total posts increased 53%, and interactions increased 11%.](https://www.productgrowth.blog/media/posts/youtube-marketing-statistics/03-channel-changes.webp)
*The changes apply to Metricool-connected accounts. They are directional evidence, not targets for every channel.*

Creator sponsorship moved too. [Axios reported](https://www.axios.com/2025/10/22/youtube-sponsorship-creator-videos) Gospel Stats data for sponsored videos from English-speaking channels that crossed 25,000 views in seven days. The underlying report was not publicly accessible during this research, so the count is useful as a scoped signal, not a census of all paid creator work.

Read the channel and sponsorship findings as signs of activity inside measured groups. They do not supply a target for a new channel. More publishing can coincide with stronger average viewing while attention per post, audience mix and commercial value move differently. Sponsorship tracking has another filter: a study that includes only videos clearing a view threshold will miss smaller deals and early performance. Use these datasets to form questions about production pace and creator demand, then answer those questions with your own cohort. Match channels by format, age, audience and posting cadence before deciding that a public growth rate is good or bad.

## What a marketing team should do with the data

The strongest conclusion is not that every brand needs more YouTube. It is that a single YouTube line item now hides several media jobs. Treating them as one channel produces briefs that are easy to launch and hard to learn from.

1. Choose the surface before the asset. A television-first video needs legible framing, sound-aware storytelling and a next action that works from a couch. A Short needs to earn the next second. A searchable explainer needs to resolve an explicit question.
2. Give every surface a job. Use organic long-form for durable discovery, Shorts for fast distribution tests, creators for borrowed trust, and paid media for controlled reach. Those are starting hypotheses, not guaranteed roles.
3. Name the denominator in the dashboard. Report people reached, qualified views, watch time, response and business outcome separately. Do not let one large view total stand in for the entire chain.
4. Build your own benchmark. Compare matched format, audience, objective, geography and period. Public averages are context; your repeated campaign design is the decision system.

A practical review can fit on one page. Write the campaign job at the top. Under it, list the intended audience, surface and viewing context. Add one delivery measure, one attention measure, one qualified response and one business outcome, each with its own source and reporting window. Mark which values are observed, which are modeled and which are survey answers. When a number changes, the team can then ask what actually moved instead of debating a blended dashboard. The discipline is simple, but it prevents a reach estimate, a view and a sale from quietly becoming the same success story.

YouTube's 2026 story is a screen shift and a measurement problem at the same time. The platform can reach broad audiences, command television attention and support several creator business models. Marketers still have to prove which clock matters for the job. Start there, and the statistics become inputs to a decision instead of decoration for a budget request. That makes the next experiment easier to read.

## YouTube marketing statistics FAQ

#### How many people use YouTube in 2026?

YouTube does not publish a current audited global monthly-active-user figure in the public records used here. For a clean population measure, Pew found that 84% of U.S. adults reported using YouTube in its 2025 survey. Advertising reach, logged-in viewers and survey use are different denominators.

#### Is YouTube the biggest television platform in the United States?

In Nielsen's July 2026 Media Distributor Gauge, YouTube ranked first with 14.2% of U.S. television viewing and led the second-ranked distributor by 5.0 share points. The Gauge includes ad-supported and non-ad-supported viewing and is not Nielsen's ad-sales currency.

#### Are YouTube Shorts views comparable with long-form views?

Do not assume so. Format definitions, viewing contexts and repeat behavior differ. Compare performance within a documented format and measurement period, then connect each format to the same downstream business outcome if you need a budget decision.

#### What is a good YouTube engagement rate?

There is no trustworthy platform-wide rate that survives changes in format, audience size, traffic source, geography and interaction denominator. Use a matched internal benchmark, then pair engagement with audience retention, qualified response and business value.

**Next job: Split one YouTube dashboard into four clocks.** Label reach, viewing, response and business outcome separately, then attach the population, format and period to each metric. Remove any number that cannot answer the campaign's stated job.
